Living National Treasure Fukumi Shimura, the senshoku dyeing expert and textile weaver, once said that she was ¡°borrowing the true colors from plants and trees.¡± Known for using both rustic and vibrant colors created by mixing dyes sourced from plants, Shimura¡¯s work not only highlights the inherent beauty of nature, but also stresses the importance of protecting the environment.

On show are roughly 60 of Shimura¡¯s works, drawn mainly from the museum¡¯s collection, including her latest pieces made with intention of teaching the next generation the artistry and skill behind kimono textiles.
