Comic book fans in Japan may think they¡¯ve seen every version of ¡°Batman¡± to date, but actors Ben McKenzie and Sean Pertwee ¡ª stars of the new Batman-oriented TV series ¡°Gotham¡± ¡ª believe there¡¯s still a ¡°bumpy ride¡± to be had.
Comics, films, television ¡ª there have been many memorable ¡°Batman¡± spin-offs over the past 75 years. From September, American director Bruno Heller got to put his own twist on the story with ¡°Gotham,¡± by writing it as an origin story for the Caped Crusader.
McKenzie and Pertwee play Jim Gordon and Alfred Pennyworth, respectively. The two ¡°GC citizens¡± tell The Japan Times that the show is about more than Bruce Wayne¡¯s evolution into Batman, it¡¯s about the city of Gotham itself. There are some familiar characters (Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Oswald Cobblepot/Penguin) and some unfamiliar ones (Jada Pinkett-Smith plays gangster Fish Mooney). There are also familiar characters who seem a bit unfamiliar.
