In 19th and early 20th-century Europe, advances in the fields of mathematics, mechanical engineering, biology, geology and archaeology brought about a new appreciation of ¡°simple forms,¡± which led to notable influences on modern art.
This exhibition ¡ª a collection of works from all over the world ¡ª is the first joint exhibition by the Centre Pompidou-Metz and Fondation d¡¯entreprise Hermes, and it has been brought to Japan to celebrate the reopening of the Mori Art Museum after three months of renovation work. It brings together 130 ¡°simple form¡± exhibits ¡ª objects, art and installations ¡ª splitting them into nine sections: Metaphysical Landscapes, Home for Solitude, Cosmos and Moon, Mechanical Forms, Geometric Forms, Forms of Nature, Generative Forms, Animal and Human, and Enigma.
