Fifty years have passed since the first Tokyo Olympics, and with the city¡¯s winning bid for 2020, now is a good time to reflect on the cultural progression that helped Japan win the honor to host in 1964.

Post-World War II Japan of the 1950s and ¡®60s saw many changes. It experienced record economic growth and advances in manufacturing and design that resulted in a wealth of goods that fascinated people across the world. ¡°Made in Japan 50¡¯s-60¡¯s¡± presents artworks and related products that were not only born from the new era of mass production and consumerism, but also helped Japan gain a reputation for innovation and quality.

Running the gamut from industrial goods, interiors and crafts to graphic design and fashion, examples of exhibits include the TR-610 pocket radio by Sony, the Toyota Corolla car and Honda¡¯s Super Cub motorcycle; Aug. 2-Sept. 23.
