To celebrate the 150th anniversary of the birth of French ukiyo-e artist Henri Riviere (1888-1902), the Sagawa Art Museum is showcasing the printmaker’s famous “Thirty-six Views of the Eiffel Tower” alongside its inspiration, Katsushika Hokusai’s “Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji.”

Seeing the two series’ of prints side by side highlights the ukiyo-e techniques adopted by Riviere to illustrate his hometown of Paris, while also providing a visual indication of how much Hokusai’s work influenced the late 18th-century European Japonism movement.

Also on display, to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the first publication of “The Hokusai Manga,” are original copies of Hokusai’s sketches, as well as the woodcuts made to produce the works; July 12-Aug. 31.
