To celebrate its 25th anniversary, the Yokohama Museum of Art is holding an exhibition of around 220 works selected from its 1,600-strong collection of ukiyo-e (woodcut prints)
Chosen to illustrate the art form¡¯s history from the Edo Period (1603-1867) to present day, the exhibition covers the evolution of prints ¡ª from their use of flyers to their popularity overseas and today¡¯s contemporary interpretations. The show includes works of world-famous artists, such as Kuniyoshi Utagawa (1798-1861) and Yumeji Takehisa (1884-1934), as well as a selection of the latest modern works.
In March, the museum will also host an exhibition of video installations by Aya Momose as one of the museum¡¯s projects to support young artists; March 1-25.
