During the late1800s, westernization in Japan brought about a new art style ¡ª ²â¨²µ²¹, for which Japanese artists emulated western conventions and techniques, inspired in particular by European painters.
The collection on show presents more than 200 ²â¨²µ²¹ works, paying particular homage to renowned artists Shigeru Aoki and Ryusei Kishida. Two public lectures will also be held: ¡°On the relationship with Shibakawa Terukichi and Fujii Tatsukichi¡± and ¡°Painters around Shibakawa Terukichi¡°; till June 30.
