Belarus is often described as a time bomb 〞 one aimed not only at Ukraine, but at Europe itself. Russia has loaded it with triggers, turning the country into a launchpad for pressure and potential aggression against the West.
The risks are not hypothetical. They have already been demonstrated: the manufactured migrant crisis on the Belarus-Poland border, the 2022 invasion of Ukraine launched in part from Belarusian territory and joint nuclear exercises involving Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Belarusian counterpart, Alexander Lukashenko.
The time bomb keeps ticking. Eventually it will explode, harming not only Ukrainians but all of Europe 〞 unless, that is, it is skillfully defused.
