KYIV šC Last week, immediately after what U.S. President Donald Trump called a ¡°good¡± meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Davos, Switzerland, Ukraine¡¯s Ministry of Internal Affairs advised all of the country¡¯s citizens to stock up on water and food, prepare an emergency bag with documents, warm clothes, a first-aid kit and keep cash on hand. They also recommended checking fuel supplies and being prepared for heightened security measures.
This advisory came with an alarming, but not surprising, warning: ¡°A new massive attack on Kyiv is likely by the end of the week,¡± the ministry warned. ¡°Russia¡¯s main goal at present is to make the capital uninhabitable through blackouts and a lack of heat. The strike may be carried out using strategic aviation, drones, ballistic missiles and the Oreshnik missile system.¡±
What followed over the weekend, as this newspaper reported ¡ª even as the U.S.-brokered ¡°peace¡± talks got under way in Abu Dhabi ¡ª was the ¡°bombardment of Ukraine¡¯s capital, Kyiv, and its second-largest city Kharkiv by hundreds of Russian drones and missiles.¡± This prompted Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha to accuse Russia of acting ¡°cynically.¡± This ¡°barbaric attack once again proves that Putin¡¯s place is not at (U.S. President Donald Trump¡¯s) Board of Peace, but in the dock of the special tribunal. His missiles hit not only our people, but ?also the negotiation table.¡±
