China¡¯s Commerce Ministry on Monday added 20 Japanese companies and organizations to its export control list, including the National Institute for Defense Studies and multiple Mitsubishi-affiliated defense contractors, as Beijing continues to tighten restrictions on entities it claims are tied to Tokyo¡¯s ¡°remilitarization.¡±
The designation prohibits Chinese exporters from supplying dual-use items to the listed entities, while also barring overseas companies and individuals from transferring Chinese-origin dual-use goods to them. Any ongoing transactions must also be halted immediately.?
A Chinese Commerce Ministry spokesperson said in a news release announcing the measures?that they were ¡°completely justified, reasonable and lawful,¡± and reiterated that their purpose was to curb what it described as Japan¡¯s remilitarization and pursuit of nuclear weapons.?
