One of Japan¡¯s largest labor union groups will ask employers for wage increases that exceed what it requested a year ago, signaling sustained confidence as the Bank of Japan monitors pay trends ahead of its policy meeting later this month.
Some 466 unions affiliated with UA Zensen are seeking a pay raise of 6.46% for regular workers on a weighted average, according to a tally released Thursday. A year ago, the group asked for a 6.11% increase in talks that ultimately produced a deal to raise pay by 4.75%.
A separate tally from unions representing part-time workers showed they will seek a record 7.76% wage increase on a weighted average.
