Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi faces a key decision on whom to tap for spots opening on the Bank of Japan¡¯s board, nominations that will give economists and investors an indication of how aggressively she hopes to influence central bank policy.
Takaichi¡¯s government is likely to propose replacements for Asahi Noguchi and Junko Nakagawa on the nine-member board at a parliamentary session as soon as next Wednesday, according to people familiar with the matter. Noguchi fulfills his five-year term at the end of next month while Nakagawa¡¯s expires on June 29.
